Waveplates- Prototype or Volume Production
Waveplates (also known as retardation plates) uses the bi-refringent properties of crystalline optical materials to delay the phase propagation of polarized light. The transmission range of crystalline quartz, combined with its refractive index properties, make it the ideal candidate for this application.
BMV manufactures custom and standard waveplates. The most commonly requested waveplates areof (true) zero order, 1/4 wave, and 1/2 wave retarders. Multiple order waveplates achieve the same phase change (for a given wavelength) however, higher order waveplates provide less bandwidth and can become dependent upon temperature stability.
Our waveplates can be AR coated with R<0.2% at the operational wavelength and are available in a wide range of sizes.
