Just how precise are we? Consider BMV’s solid etalon, which is used as a wavelength filter. We polish its two opposing flat surfaces to the required thickness, accurate to within nanometers. Surface flatness of our etalon routinely exceeds one-fourtieth of a wave and the surfaces are parallel to less than .1 second of arc.

We arrive at these parameters simultaneously as this surface is polished, since material cannot be added during the process.

This is an excellent example of our in-house volume production capacity. We routinely manufacture 1,000 such optics in a short timeframe.
